How to procure legal heir certificate for FD purposes ?

After death of my father i found 3 fixed deposits in his locker, all of three fixed deposits nominee are my mother, she is died before my father, and i am the joint account holder of my father savings account. Now i am only heir in my family after death of my father, with this background when I ask in bank about those fixed deposits, they say you have required a legal heir certificate those prove you are the only heir after your father. So please guide me how to i get the certificate and what the procedure for this.

For the query you posted, I would suggest the following:

As regards the legal heir proof you need to comply with certain guidelines provided by mcd and after submission of various documents including death certificate of your parents you will have to apply for it.
Within a statutory period you will be getting the certificate.

It is mandetory to get succession certificate to prove that you are only legal heir of your father. You will have to move in court for to obtain the certificate it is a process of about two or three months.

Presuming that your father has not left a will, you will have to file a succession suit to get such a certificate. Detailed opinion can only be given after understanding the entire facts of the case such as whether your father or your mother left a will.
