My grandfather with this his self earnings had bought some land, and he passed away in december of 2004 without leaving a will, my grandmother is still alive and the property is being enjoyed by my maternal uncles , my question is whether my mother and her sisters have a right to ask for equal share in the land , all of them have been married before 1985 and we belong to the hindu community. My grandmother is not ready to take a legal action against her sons.

Hi
Since it is a self acquired property of your grand father, your mother and her sisters have equal rights as that of their brothers on the self acquired property of their father(your grand father)
Though they got married in the year 1985, they are still eligible to claim their share of properties in accordance to hindu succession act.
So your mother and her sisters should file a suit for partition to claim their share
hope this information is useful
