Father wants money back which he voluntarily funded

18-Aug-2023 (In Family Law)
My father and I together funded a bike for me back in 2019. I was more than 18 years of age. Funding from his side was purely voluntary. I paid the higher share of the total amount including the installments which are now over. The bike is registered in my name. His relationship with the family has since then soured. Now he has asked me back for 1,25,000 which he put into funding the bike, or else threatens to lock the wheels of it. Am I legally obligated to pay him back ? Can he lock away the bike on his own whims and wishes?

No. he can't. If he do so, that will be amounting to restrainement as to the movable property. since the property is in your name, then the property is yours, no matter he invested money but that can't be claim as the ownership as not stated in the title documents.

Either your father had funded your bike or not , but in both case he cannot lock away the bike which is in your name.
If he still do so then you can file a complaint against him.
As far as his refund is concerned then there are several defense that you can take recourse to.

Hi,
As per the limited facts provided by you, he has no right to lock the wheels of your vehicle. Secondly regarding the payment of the vehicle, he cannot demand that amount, but there are other ways in which he can trouble you.
I can guide you this much in the limited information provided by you.
