Family member is forcefully withholding all educational certificates,

I am putting this request on behalf of my friend who was in family business. few years back he married a girl without his family's consent (intercaste marriage). they thrown him out of business and home. one elder brother got the possession of all original educational certificates, land records, and insurance paper work of friend and vehemently refusing to give them back. no family meetings solved the issue so far. As a friend, I would like to help my friend because he is ill and economically struggling, please advice, thanks.
