Procedure to obtain licence for gun

As I stay alone I need gun for my safety. Can anyone tell me the procedure.
There is a series of process. Apply permission from district magistrate/collector mentioning specific details regarding why you need weapon and what kind of dangers you are dealing with . After that character verification and other police enquiry will be done. NOC will be granted then you can get gun license.
