Legally getting married in India as a foreigner is a lengthy and time consuming process. You should be prepared to spend around 60 days in India. Here are the basic legal requirements for getting married in India. //In India, civil weddings are governed by the provisions of The Special Marriage Act (1954). There’s a 30 day residency requirement, which means that either the bride or the groom has to be living in India for at least 30 days prior to applying to the local registry office to get married.

The marriage can be performed under The Special Marriage Act 1954 at the Registrar Office. As a first step you will have to give Notice of Intended Marriage at the Registrar Office. The Notice period is 30 days only. On completion of 30 days from the date of notice you will have to visit again for the actual Marriage ceremony.
Following documents will be required:-

1. Copy of passport (Both the parties)
2. Birth Certificate (Both the parties)
3. Copy of Visa for more than the period of notice (party who is from out of India)
4. Copy of the Address Proof
5. Copy of rental agreement where the party is/are living on rent.
6. Copy of five passport size photographs (both parties)
7. Three witnesses.
8. Copy of the identity of the party from India.
9. Copy of the residence proof of the party from India.
