Generally, it is not possible to change one's caste. Caste is determined by birth and is considered an unchangeable aspect of an individual's identity. A person's caste is determined by their birth and is considered to be based on their father's caste.
Caste change can be legally done only when someone is adopted or in special circumstances, a child (born in an inter-caste marriage) at the age of 21 decides to opt for the other caste of the father or mother.
