Do I need to take permit to carry a knife

I purchased a small folding pocket knife, Victorinox Swiss knife. blade length is 3.4 inches. I use it for work like opening parcel and cutting food. Do i need a permit to carry it around everyday? is it legally allowed? Also, can I apply for a permit for this pocket knife so that I can legally carry it all the time? Please advice.
In my opinion there is no such permission required to carry a knife. However, it cannot be used for any illegal purpose.
