What is the divorce is not done but separated mutually

My cousin has been living separated from husband for the last 10 yrs They did not apply for divorce. She has a kid aged 13yrs. My uncle feels that as they have mutually separated, a divorce is not necessary. What are implications if they don't get a divorce. What is the impact on the kid's future like govt support of the father doesn't agree to support the child

Separation is different from divorce. Divorce is necessary if a spouse wants to get out of the marital bond and get remarried. A father must support his children and you can approach the court for this purpose by filing maintenance petition. Your cousin is still the wife of the husband and that status would continue.
