07-Feb-2023 (In Divorce Law)
Ours is a arranged marriage situation where my family pressured me to get registry done before social marriage. But after registry within a few days things started to change and now I am having doubts going forward. If I want to cancel the marriage please tell me what is the legal procedure or course. Secondly I want to know because we never stayed together is the marriage even valid?

if your marriage has happened by way of special marriage act of 1954 act then you do not need to do social marriage in that case the one and only way to break out from this is divorce need more details to guide better moreover social marriage is mandate as per 1955 act and registration happens later

marriage is valid by virtue of the registration but you can seek annulment of the marriage if the same is under hindu marriage Act on the ground that no ceremony was undertaken. if special marriage Act then go for regular divorce. regards, Tanmoy Chattopadhyay, M.Sc (Net), LL.B (Delhi), Advocate, Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta.
