It is up to the discretion of the parties to live together or separately. If they come to good terms during this six month period they can withdraw their petition of mutual divorce. If not, they can continue with the proceedings and get the marriage dissolved.

There is a statutory period that as per law every person must undergo. This period is mandatory. This is a protective provision that has been made to preserve the institution of marriage. Cooling-off period (6 months) sometimes results in reconciliation between the estranged husband and wife leading to saving their marriage.

It not required to live together for the period of 6months after first hearing the time period of six months has been given under law just because to watch each other moves like in the sense whether both the partners can live separately from each other after finally get divorced read section 13 (b)(1) and 13 (b)(2) of Hindu Marriage Act
