My husband and me are heading for a contested divorce. I have been a housewife after marriage. I have had no source of income. Hence all household items have been bought by my husband's money.I wanted to ask that during separation now, who do these items go to -- me or my husband?

You should first of all engage a lawyer having expertise in matrimonial laws and seek a proper advise. Certain homework needs to be done at this point in time. You can file a maintenance petition plus a complaint under the domestic violence act for the atrocities committed upon you. You may further contact for detailed consultation

Any item given in gift can’t be taken back therefore u need to see the same from that point of angle! If Contested divorce comes in your favour u will get alimony too ! Household items can be bought again ! You need to hire expert advocate in this regard! All the best

All the items brought after marriage would go to the person, as decided by the settlement deed. Before heading for the mutual divorce prepare a settlement deed which has clauses for all such items. This will ease the process of divorce and will avoid future disputes.
