Mental, emotional, psyhcological abuse by husband and inlaws

07-Oct-2023 (In Divorce Law)
I've faced severe mental and physical abuse from my husband and in-laws soon after marriage. They demanded dowry and wanted me to manage everything, despite my long work hours. My husband sided with them and abandoned me. After months of gaslighting, I sought police intervention for counseling. He still blames me. Is reconciliation worth it given the toxic behavior and no support? I fear for my future.

If the behaviour of your husband and in-laws is intolerable towards you can anytime send a complaint regarding your grievances in writing to the police station according to your jurisdiction. And if you wish to go legal then you can also file a petition under section 12 DV or section 125 CrPC and claim maintenance for yourself. And if there's no scope of living together then rather stretching the relationship you should file for contested divorce under the ground of cruelty. I would suggest you to go with mutual divorce because it's cost effective and ends up in a maximum of six months. For more legal assistance I am just a call away.

It is usual for lawyers to not to suggest Couple Therapy. But in your case it seems that you want to give a chance for reconciliation. It is suggested to go to a good Marriage Counsellor. In the event, the husband refuses to go then there is no option but seek Court’s help.
