Marriage exenses claim after divoerce

12-Nov-2023 (In Divorce Law)
Hi, I got divorce in 2017 as ex party under the ground of cruelty, coz she was requesting for compensation for which I was not ready to pay as all allegations passed on me was false. hence they asked me not to come to court as they will get ex party. hence I too agreed on the same and got a written statement in a bond paper stating that there is no disputed between my x and me and I have given all her belongings like jewels, dresses household articles etc.. in front of all women's police station. after an year in 2018 I got married and leading a peaceful life, now I got a letter from her father stating to bare the marriage expenses of 12 lacs else they will file a case against me in court.. how should I react on this? will marriage expenses can be claimed even after divorce that too after 1 and half years. please advise me.. I am being tortured by her and family.

If divorce was claimed on the ground of cruelty, you did a mistake by allowing it to become ex parte. A matter decided ex parte means you accept all the allegations made.
However, now the first wife cannot claim the marriage expenses. Ignore the letter, but keep it safe to counter any claim of maintenance.
