Legally relief from Marriage, which is not solemnised in legally

24-Jul-2023 (In Divorce Law)
Social marriage or legally marriage never happened. But we lived together for long time and there was a function where we declare us as husband and wife. And I have voter card ( currently I changed the name) where his name is mentioned as husband. But now I don’t want to continue the relationship. Can he claim that I am his legal wife?? Will court consider this document??

no he will have to prove the marriage. in case you deny such status to him, just living together and ration card ipso facto cannot establish his right. but those are relevant factors in his quest to achieve legal status of marriage. regards, Tanmoy Chattopadhyay, M.Sc (Net), LL.B (Delhi), Advocate Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta.
