HUSBAND USED ME FOR visa purposes and denying it

13-Aug-2025 (In Divorce Law)
I am a 27-year-old woman from India. In 2023, I was in a relationship with a man who got me pregnant. During this vulnerable period, he emotionally manipulated and pressured me into marrying him in April 2023. I agreed to the marriage because I believed he would take responsibility and that we had a genuine future together. However, shortly after the wedding, it became clear that his intentions were not sincere, and I was emotionally trapped in a relationship built on lies and exploitation. From

It appears that you may have legal grounds to seek annulment or divorce under Indian law. Since you were pressured and emotionally manipulated into marriage during a vulnerable period, this could be considered coercion or fraud under Section 12 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, making the marriage voidable. You may also file for divorce under Section 13(1)(ia) on the ground of mental cruelty. In addition, if you can prove emotional manipulation and exploitation, you may have grounds for filing a criminal complaint under Sections 498A (cruelty by husband) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code. If you suffered threats, blackmail, or undue pressure, Section 506 (criminal intimidation) may also apply. Given your circumstances, you can also seek maintenance/alimony under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code, and if children are involved, you can claim child custody and support. I strongly recommend that you: 1. Collect all evidence of manipulation, coercion, or fraud (messages, witnesses, any proof of threats or emotional abuse). 2. Consult a family law advocate immediately to draft a petition for annulment or divorce. 3. Consider approaching the Women’s Cell or National Commission for Women for support and protection if needed.
