Guidance Requested on Live-in Relationship and Future Legal Risks

09-Nov-2025 (In Divorce Law)
A girl was forced into marriage by her family but never lived with her husband as she was unhappy with the relationship. Even after two years, she couldn’t accept him as her partner. Later, she fell in love with another man, and they decided to leave together after writing a letter explaining her feelings and decision. Since her husband is a family member, she couldn’t seek divorce. What legal issues might arise if they elope and live together?

You have to file an application to Set aside your marriage before the court having jurisdiction over the matter and also other applications for relief it's better if you go live with your partner only after the decree passed by the court otherwise you will be suffering legal consequences from the side of your present husband as well as his family members

If they elope without divorce, the husband or family may file complaints such as missing, kidnapping/abduction, or accuse the man of taking her away. The marriage legally continues, so living together can create police issues and future legal complications. Best way is to legally end the marriage first.
