The client should not feel helpless merely because the amount paid was only ₹350. Once a person claiming to be an advocate takes money for legal advice and then blocks the client without giving any consultation, opinion, receipt, or refund, the conduct appears highly improper and unprofessional. The first step should be to preserve all evidence, such as the app post, call details, WhatsApp/chat messages, payment screenshot, UPI transaction ID, profile details, and any proof showing that she represented herself as a lawyer. The client should first send a written message or legal notice demanding either the promised legal advice or refund within a fixed time. If there is no response, a complaint may be filed before the concerned State Bar Council, especially if she is an enrolled advocate, because advocates are governed by professional standards framed under the Advocates Act and Bar Council Rules. The Bar Council of India also provides a procedure for complaints against advocates, with prescribed particulars and fee. In 2024, the Supreme Court held that complaints for deficiency in service against practising advocates are not maintainable under the Consumer Protection Act, so the better remedy against an enrolled advocate is disciplinary complaint before the Bar Council, and not a consumer complaint. If the person is not actually an advocate and falsely used the title to collect money, then the matter may also be reported to the app/platform and local cyber police as cheating or impersonation. The client should avoid abusive messages and proceed only through written complaint, because even small online legal fraud deserves action.

What you have faced is unfortunate and against LawRato's policy. No lawyer should directly ask for money and then block you after payment. 1. Report on LawRato: Immediately click on 'Report Spam?' on this query and file a complaint against the lawyer. Attach screenshots of the ₹350 payment and call details as proof. LawRato can deactivate the lawyer's profile for such misconduct. 2. Bar Council Complaint: Under Section 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961, you can file a professional misconduct complaint against the lawyer with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh. If found guilty, the lawyer's license can be suspended or cancelled. 3. Consumer Court: This is a clear case of 'deficiency in service' under the Consumer Protection Act,

I’m truly sorry that you had to go through such an experience. No client deserves to be treated this way. Trust is the foundation of the legal profession, and every advocate has a responsibility to communicate honestly and professionally. If the facts are as you’ve described, you may consider reporting the matter to the platform and, if necessary, to the appropriate Bar Council. Please don’t lose faith in the legal profession because of one unfortunate incident. There are many advocates who genuinely work to help people with integrity. I wish you justice and a fair resolution.
