Physical Sacrilege against religious texts on an online platform.
11-Apr-2025 (In Cyber Crime Law)
I recently came across a video on instagram wherein a person committed deliberate physical sacrilege against religious texts. I have registered a formal complaint to the police. My question is that, if the matter reaches court, does the accused face the complainant i.e. me. Or the state will take matter in its hands for prosecution as public interest ?
Once a formal complaint is registered regarding sacrilege against religious texts, the case is treated as a criminal offense against society, not just an individual. Therefore, if the matter reaches court, the State through the Public Prosecutor takes over the prosecution in public interest, and not the complainant personally. However, the complainant may be called as a witness to support the case.
