Looking private messages without permission

I was staying in hostel with 2 batchmates.As my phone doesn't have lock when I was going to take bath they are just opening my phone and reading my private messages. And they take photos of the chat and share among each other and comment on it .Is this a offence if there is any punishment for the same.

If you don't take reasonable care of locking your device and also be careless about keeping your private gadgets within reach and access of third person, it can backfire on you bcs of your negligence. If you can prove beyond all doubts that you have suffered some sizeable loss due to their respective acts, you may file a police complaint.
