What punishment for Cheating in Madras university exam

If someone cheated in an semester exam of college under Madras University but completed the course but after few months , someone informed the college and university about the cheating they did. What will be the next action and will they not give the degree certificate or fail the semester in which one cheated?
If the alleged cheating is proved then the university needs to initiate action and the candidate will not receive his certificate. Actually the university needs to file a police complaint regarding cheating.
