vehicle sold to third party but was not transferred & vehicle

we had sold our old honda city car model no. 1998 to some body in delhi through olx. As the car was beyond the permissible limit for running or transfer of registration i.e beyond 15 years in case of petrol cars in the year 2017. As the car was not legally transferable we sold it by getting the acknowledgement / receipt on plain paper that this car is sold as scrap for dismantling. The new owner did not either dismantled or got the car transferred in his name.
The car was confiscated by the police in 2017 itself under excise act for smuggling of liquor. And now the police is harassing us and the same case is going to the court within 7 to 10 days. What are legal consequences / remedy for the same. Pl. Advice.
In this regard, I want to tell you that you were required to inform the transport authorities within 1 month and it was your duty under law to make them aware of such transfer. And there high legal consequence to it. You need to now bring to the notice of the police though the said car is in my name but the same has been disposed off for the purpose of dismantling to the transferee.
