Vehicle ownership transfer not being done by the buyer

12-Mar-2023 (In Criminal Law)
Hi. I had sold my car to a person in Jan 2021. I had taken written declaration and his aadhar card copy from him on the day of purchase about the transaction. He transferred the money same day so there is no money issue in the transaction. He assured me that he will get the vehicle transferred to his name. After following multiple times, he was assuring that he will get it done. He was constantly in touch telling that car is running good etc. Recently he asked 15k from me citing a family urgency, I transferred him the money out of goodwill to help. He was avoiding my calls of late saying he is stuck in work, now he has stopped responding to my calls or msgs. I am not concerned about the 15k, but I am worried if any illegal activity happens with the car, my name still appears on the car ownership, What can be done now? Can I ask RTO to initiate transfer process and issue him summon and close the matter. I do not want a police complaint at it might complicate the matter.

hi, since you have sold the vehicle with written declaration you are on the safer side but is is always better to file a police complaint because if he meets with an accident or uses it for any illegal activity unnecessarily you will have to go to the police station and court, let the police investigate the matter and take action against him.
