Steps after filing a police complaint
11-Aug-2023 (In Criminal Law)
Dear Sir, I was beaten by a shop owner for parking a car in front of his shop. I filed a police complaint and a medical exam was conducted after that, I would like to know what the next steps are.
Dear,
Now as per standard procedure, based on the medical test, the police will register FIR and may arrest the accused. Thereafter, after investigation, police will file charge sheet against the accused and the court will send summons to the accused for his presence in the court. Thereafter after few hearings, trial will commence in the case. Consult a local lawyer and discuss about the case.

Hi
In general, unless and until, you have suffered grievious injuries(such as stiches, fracture etc) OR suffered hospitilisation for more than 24 hours, these cases are u/s323 IPC and these are in general compoundable and bailable and as such the court will refer the matter to lok adalat for payment of fine.
if there are serious injuries (stitches, fractures,) then the offence is under 320 IPC and here the person will be arrested and released on bail. Trial will proceed in this case and person will go to jail if convicted.
