Procedure and grounds for defamation case

Many of my relatives and their friends have spread a news to everyone in my area stating that I have married someone in a register office without even informing my parents and claimed to have proof( photos and other documents). I am a 23 year old unmarried guy and this fake news is making my life difficult to live in the society and I think it will even be an issue when I really plan to get married. How do I proceed with filing a defamation case on the people responsible for it (if it is possible in the given circumstances)??
