Steps to Take Regarding the Private Complaint & Investigation Status: Follow Up with the Police: Since the Magistrate has taken cognizance and forwarded the matter for police investigation, you should personally visit the concerned police station. Request a status update on the investigation. If they are delaying, submit a written representation and get an acknowledgment. File an RTI (Right to Information): If the police are unresponsive, file an RTI application seeking the current status of the investigation. File a Compliance Petition: If the police fail to act, you can file a petition before the same Magistrate under Section 156(3) of CrPC (or the corresponding BNS provision) to direct the police to comply with the court’s order. Station Bail or Court Bail: If your wife and in-laws are accused, they can approach the police station for station bail if the offenses are bailable. If any offenses are non-bailable, they must apply for anticipatory bail before the Sessions Court or High Court. If arrests happen, they can file for regular bail under BNS provisions before the concerned court. Status of the Case: To track the status of the charges, check the e-court services website or visit the court registry. If the chargesheet is not filed within the statutory period, the accused can seek discharge. If needed, I can help draft petitions for RTI, compliance, or anticipatory bail applications. Let me know how you'd like to proceed.

Next Step: Visit the police station where the case was transferred. Submit a written application requesting status of investigation under Right to Information (RTI) or CrPC. 2. When and How You’ll Get Case Status: File an RTI application with the concerned police station to know the action taken. Or, file a petition under Section 482 CrPC in High Court if the police fail to act, seeking direction to register FIR or complete investigation promptly.
