Hi there, yes selling and purchasing the obscene material is a crime under the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act as well. Proving the intent for private use is always a tricky part. As for investigation, YES police can call you for cooperation in investigation. However arrest will depend on various factors but with proper legal representation it can be avoided. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Mere purchase of obscene material for private use generally does not attract criminal liability in India, as the main offence is against those who publish, sell, or distribute such material. However, if the material is found to be obscene or pornographic, there may be risk of investigation depending on circumstances. Usually, customers are not the primary target, but if your details surface in an ongoing case, you could receive notice or summons. For clarity on your specific situation and how to safeguard yourself, you may contact me for detailed guidance.

India, selling obscene material is a punishable offence. A customer who buys it only for private use is usually not treated as the main offender, but police may issue notice during investigation. Court summons can come if your name figures in FIR/charge-sheet, though arrest only for private possession is uncommon.

If someone only bought obscene material for private use and did not sell, share, or publish it, they are usually not treated as an offender under Information Technology Act, 2000 or Indian Penal Code. The police mainly act against those who create, sell, or distribute obscene content. However, if the investigation finds any signs of sharing or public display, then the buyer could also face legal trouble.
