Love relation with my boyfriend then breakup.

27-Sep-2025 (In Criminal Law)
We were in relationship from past 5 years. I have filed a rape case against him. I have whatsApp chats from 1.5 years. Do I need to give all my whatsApp chats to My IO or the only screenshots relevant and beneficial for me as giving all the chats can show a consensual love relation.

In law, once you have filed an FIR, the investigation is conducted by the IO and you are expected to cooperate fully. Selectively giving chats that favour your case and hiding others may later weaken your credibility. WhatsApp chats, if produced by the opposite side, can be used to show a consensual relationship. Therefore, it is advisable to hand over the complete chat history to the IO so that you cannot be accused of suppressing material facts. You can, however, highlight before the Court the portions which support your allegations and explain the context of a long relationship vs. the specific act which you claim was without consent. Remember, withholding evidence may harm your case more than disclosing it. You should proceed under the guidance of your advocate, who will ensure the chats are presented in a proper legal manner.

Hi there, a consensual relationship based on the false promise of marriage is a crime. However, in the course of routine physical relationship proving/creating a doubt as to absence of consent is going to be difficult. It's advisable to contact me and provide more details to assist you better. As for chats, don't submit anything till the time police ask for it.

Firstly, you need to understand that even if consent is obtained by misrepresentation of fact that is on pretext of marriage. Cooperate with the IO but give all documents in court only. Answer to your question is subjective so after going through your facts a precise advise can be given.
