Legal remedy in case of marital rape

One of my female friends has been suffering rigorously from forced sex by her husband for several years. Though despite being husband, he has usually ignored his responsibilities towards his wife and children, which has now resulted into a complete emotional alienation from wife's part. What could be possible legal ways for her to protect herself from forced sex to regain her confidence and dignity except divorce as she also has two children to raise? Please suggest
