Is Drink & Drive is visible on PCC / affect study visa in UK/Ireland ?
07-Dec-2025 (In Criminal Law)
Was caught drink driving got Section 185 MVA in January 2025, I went to court and paid the fine. On the district court record it's case type is summons/summary criminal case, case is disposed. Uncontested--Convicted on plead guilty / plea bargaining.
Will this show up in PCC ?
Will this affect visa application for Ireland / UK ?
PCC is issued only if the local police verify and send a “clear police verification report.” If your record shows a criminal conviction, or something flagged as “adverse,” the police may mark that and then PCC may be denied or flagged. While courts have ruled that PCC cannot be denied simply because of involvement in criminal case, the decision still rests on what the police record shows — and that can vary.
An offence under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act is a summary offence. Since you pleaded guilty and paid the fine, it amounts to a conviction on record. Whether it appears in a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) depends on the local police records and the format of PCC issued; minor traffic offences are often not reflected, but there is no absolute guarantee. For visa applications to Ireland or the UK, such minor drink-driving convictions generally do not lead to rejection, provided there is full and truthful disclosure if asked. Visa authorities usually assess seriousness, sentence imposed, and time elapsed. Suppression or misrepresentation is more likely to cause issues than the offence itself.
