How to demand formal apology & no-contact undertaking from abusive ex

14-Sep-2025 (In Criminal Law)
I was in an abusive relationship where my ex forced me into non-consensual sex, tracked my phone, accessed my social accounts, mentally harassed me, threatened to reveal my past, and abandoned me, leading to severe depression and a suicide attempt. I still love him but can’t go back. I want a notarized apology, acknowledgment of guilt, and a no-contact undertaking without going to court. How can I do this effectively?

What you want is possible through a carefully drafted notarized affidavit/undertaking, but you should weigh whether keeping it outside court actually safeguards you or leaves you exposed. A stronger alternative is a private settlement deed drafted by a lawyer, signed on stamp paper, notarized, and witnessed, wherein he acknowledges misconduct and agrees to no-contact terms. This would act as a moral and evidentiary document you could rely on it later if he breaches it, but it has limited enforceability by itself unless you file it in court.

You can send him a legal notice outlining his actions and the consequences for the same. And demand an apology, compensation and admission of guilt for him to settle the matter amicably. This is effective if the person wants to avoid court

If your ex is ready to give you this in writing then you don't have to go and file it in court, you need a stamp paper, a notary person a good apology written on paper in the form of an affidavit and your work is done

1) Calm & firm (good for de-escalation) I appreciate your position, but I'm not able to give money for this. I value our relationship and would prefer we meet without money being involved. Let's talk and find another way. 2) Boundary + refusal (clear, polite) I'm not comfortable giving money as a condition to visit. If there's a different reason you're asking, please explain - otherwise I won't be able to comply. 3) If they insist - offer compromise (keeps door open) I can't pay that amount. If you need help with something specific (travel, groceries, etc.) tell me exactly what and we can discuss a smaller contribution or another solution. 4) Short & direct (if you want to be blunt) No. I will not pay money to come to your house. That's not acceptable.
