First, while there's no time limit for filing an FIR, make sure it is filed as soon as possible. If there's a delay in filing, the informant should have a valid reason for not filing the FIR immediately.

Well, the time limit to file a FIR under Section 420 of the IPC is upto Seven Years from the Date when the Offence was committed, this limitation period has been calculated as per Sec 468 (1) and Sec 468 (2) of the CRPC, 1973.
