Financial fraud done through matrimony app

23-Jun-2025 (In Criminal Law)
I met a man on a matrimony app in July 2023. He claimed to be serious about marriage and said he had informed his family. Over the year, he kept asking for money, saying he didn’t take any from his parents and had run out of funds. I ended up giving him around ₹4 lakhs. In October 2024, I found out he was marrying someone else—his girlfriend of 3 years. He never told me and continued taking money while being in a relationship. I informed his wife and brother, but no one is helping.

Cheating (Section 420 IPC): This is the most direct criminal charge. From your description, it appears he intentionally deceived you from the beginning with the promise of marriage to induce you to part with money. The fact that he was already in a long-term relationship and proceeded to marry someone else while continuing to take money strongly supports the element of dishonest intention. You can file a First Information Report (FIR) with the police
