Criminal case u/s 66D IT ACT, 420 IPC, 120B IPC, NEED LAWYER

Hello, someone in my family got involved in malpractice of PROXY TEST TAKING in an online exam and once we found out about it, we told that person to surrender the certificate he has obtained using illegal means and he did that (He no longer holds that certificate) but now we fear that there is this case against that person for 420, 120B, 66D IT Act and he will be convicted. nDoes surrendering the certificate and not using it for any gain will help us in this case? The evidence against this person is WhatsApp chat only. Nothing else is there, can we win this case? We regret that this person committed such a crime but we don't want his future ruined for this one mistake. Is surrendering certificate and not getting any gain help us in court?
