Can police detain you if they find cough syrups in your car

Mumbai police taken my licence and car keys and they discovered some 10 to 15 bottle of cough syrup in my car. They had detained me and continuously beating me for the whole night and forcefully telling me that accept you are a drug supplier
Provide you are carrying with permission / license/ otherwise under schedule drugs its a offence. One can be detained for drugs.but police can not force you by beating making you accept you are drug supplier. You can call your advocate, family to inform. Its unlawful if not allowed to contact your people.

They can detain you if the cough syrup found is not legal in India. If the case is going ahead you can contact me. Will need to see the contents of the FIR to advice you better. As it is just cough syrup for medicinal purposes there shouldn't be any issue. Incase you want to react then you can always file a complaint for wrongful confinement.
