Can dowry case be filled after engagement of the couple

Engagement has happened and we have given 2.5 lacs in cash and were agreed on giving 2.5 lac more in cash and 3 lacs deposit in the name of girl. But now they want all the money in cash and 2 lacs more. As only few weeks left for marriage and so boy's party is threatening of cancellation of marriage. Can we file a dowry case on them as the family is so ridiculous and we are unable to fulfill their demand. If marriage breaks up, we would be at heavy loss.
