Can a girls family threaten after cancelling engagement

i got engaged to a girl. later i came to know a lot of difference in her behaviour. i thought to call off the wedding and accordingly informed the family of the girl. we even gave them all the money for the expenditure. now they are threatening to file a case. what can we do
Hii...no one has right to compell you to get marriage against your wish.if parents of girl are threatning you to involve some false cases and interfaring in your personal life than you may file suit for permanent injuction reatraining the defendant to interfaring in your peacful .

So far as threatnings by girl or girls family is concerned. .. they can threaten even before engagement. But untill or unless marriage is performed between you and the said girl they cant take benefit of those laws which will be in girls favour after the marriage. But they can take recourse to other laws which are available to them before marriage... just like cheating fraud etc...

Don't worry. Do them what they want to do. You have genuine and very strong reason of break the engagement. If they file suit of threat commuted by you then file them. When court asks you or when the case is on reply then you can give your reason to the court that the behaviour of girl is not good towards yourself. She always uses abuse and rude language when I talk to her
