Bringing eggs in the school is prohibited

28-Jul-2025 (In Criminal Law)
I received a call from one of the female staff members, who informed me that bringing eggs to school in her lunchbox was not allowed, implying that eggs are considered non-vegetarian and hence prohibited in the school. I tried to calmly explain that eggs are not classified as non-vegetarian in many Indian households and are a common, nutritious food for children. Is it not personal choice, is it a rule that kids cannot have eggs in the the school?

Dear Sir, Unless there is a clearly communicated, written school policy supported by the managing committee or school trust, restricting eggs solely on the basis of perceived non-vegetarian status may infringe on personal dietary freedoms and parental rights. You can raise this issue formally with the principal or school management and request a copy of the food policy.

Yes some school have a restrictions over the food to be carried to school, however egg is considered one of the most nutritious food and bring restrictions on such food is not legal and you can speak with the head of the school to permit the same, if not you can consider taking legal steps
