Bike theft & recovery through court

I have lost bike and i have filed the FIR. Later the police has recovered the bike. The police is saying to recover the bike from court. The RC of vehicle is on others name who is shifted to other state. The Fir filed is on other person name. The lawyer is saying it will take 6 months or 1 year unexpected. I am not able to understand being owner of vehicle we need to wait for 6 months.

hi first need to see whether any application was filed in the court below and the status of the application and if it is taking more time than you could file petition in court seeking for early disposal of the case
