An institute named Thejas Global took money from me and promised to give me degree certificate within an year from annamalai University. They didn't conduct exams. When asked about it they told me that they will give me a refund, but they didn't. I have got back checks from them which got bounced. Is there any way I can get my money back? Will registering a complaint at the local police help?

you can file criminal case against the institute under negotiable instruments act . you need not go to police station because police don't involve money matters directly they direct you to file case before the court
