If the acts occurred when the victim was a minor, it amounts to serious sexual offences punishable under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (earlier IPC). There is no limitation period for reporting aggravated sexual assault. A complaint can still be lodged before the jurisdictional police station or directly before the Magistrate under Section 156(3) CrPC / corresponding BNSS provision. If the accused are spreading false allegations in the village, it also amounts to criminal defamation and criminal intimidation. The victim can file a private complaint before the Magistrate seeking action. Due to the sensitive nature, the statement will be recorded confidentially and identity will be protected. The victim may also approach the District Legal Services Authority for free legal aid.

Sexual harassment case law in India is primarily governed by the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act), which mandates internal committees for workplaces with 10+ employees. Key precedents like Vishaka v. State of Rajasthan established initial guidelines, while recent rulings emphasize that the victim's experience of unwelcome behavior takes precedence over the offender's intent.
