Need help with furniture design copyright laws in India

Hi,
I had few queries regarding furniture design copyright laws in India:
- How long designs are protected in India by law?
- Is there anything in particular law says about furniture designs?
- Any difference if design is build in India or it is from outside India?
- Any automatic protection if design is patented / copyright protected outside India?
- Any place to check if some design is copyright / design protected in India?
- Any precaution to be taken while importing furniture replicas from outside India?
- Any precaution to be taken while putting these replicas on sale on website in India?
- What is penalty if one breaks any copyright design laws?

Designs are not copyrighted although the artistic form of it can be copyrighted under the relevant IP laws. Moreover, the design is itself an IP which has relevant legislation to its effect. There is no specific law regulating furniture design. Yes, you can check if a design is protected in India or not. Replica's as to pirated are prohibited articles and would attract criminal charges. Theirs is no specific penalty with regard to infringement of copyright r design, it varies from case to case and the gain made through that infringing article.

as per your question in india there is a spacific law known as IPR law under which designs are been protected to get copied by one and other. the tenure for which its getting protected by law is for 10 years .yes you have keep in mind while importing or while selling furniture tht the des8gn ur selling or i.portinv is protected by law or not.
