I am an Airline X which is showing a movie to their passengers, what rules are taken into consideration, and how do they actually show the movie, do they rent it, lease it, similarly for music?

You must take prior permission from the producers of that movie to show that movie to your customers. The owners of the movie can make a written agreement with you and charge something from you. If u will show that movie to your customers without permission, this would be a violation of their copyright and trademark and they can sue your company for the same.

You have to seek a license from the producer/ distributor for the purpose of showing it onboard. Similarly you have to take license from either the music societies for playing the music onboard (any commercial use)

For playing any music or movie, specific licences are required to be taken from singers, producers etc.
There are several licencing organizations available for same.
Like for music you there is Indian Singers Rights Association (ISRA), PPL, IPRS etc.
You may though have to be cautious & better conduct your due diligence as to their authenticity & authority. For e.g. though PPL, IPRS also claim their rights, it is now disputable as ISRA is the only registered copyright society presently and further several adverse court orders have been passed against PPL & IPRS.

Technically speaking, the Indian Copyright Act and its rules would be applicable. Most commercial enterprises exhibit and use such films and music by private arrangements with the owners of the work (mostly the author and/or the producer) or by arrangement with copyright societies. Any other mode of operation may not be permissible. More details required for specific advice.
