Yeah
Defendant can.
If it is an appeal or revision there too he can appear even before presentation of appeal or revision he can approach the court in the shape of caveat. This is a procedure and also right of every litigant which can't be curtailed in any manner.

Hello client
A summon is issued to the defendant to appear. But if the defendant appears at the presentation of plaint and admits the plaintiff's claim then no summon shall be issued.For more details u have to specify what problem u r facing.

When the plaintiff case is admitted by the court and order is passer for appearance of the defendant to show cause or file WS.At that stage the defendant may appear on the date fixed even before receiving the summon

Yes before issuing summon defendant can appear in the case . Let me clarify the nature of the case and the prayer made by the plaintiff . If the interim application is there then you take proper advice of your advocate
