What rights can any widow claim over her husband's property

09-Jul-2023 (In Civil Law)
My father expired in 2004 without leaving any will. Most of the property is in his name and some in mother's name and they are self acquired. Very few property is ancestral. What rights do the widow have over the mentioned property.

Under Hindu Succession Act, 1956, the properties of a Hindu male dying intestate devolves, in the first instance, equally on his sons, daughters, widow and mother. The widow of the deceased is entitled to inherit equally with sons and daughters. And hence your mother has all the rights over this property.
