regarding chage of dob in my birth certificate..!!
17-Aug-2026 (In Civil Law)
i am 21 year old, i have an issue with my dob miss match in documents, i am currently in 3rd year engineering, i have 15/09/2005 on my birth certificate and aadhaar card, but it is 16/09/2005 on my educational documents i,e(10th marks sheet, intermediate marks sheet, and now maybe in my engineering documents), so i need to change birth certificate, i think the birth date might be correct, but now it's all over other documents, can't i change in birth to resolve more chaos... please help me. thx
You should not change the birth certificate merely to match educational records. First establish the correct date from contemporaneous records such as hospital records, birth register and school admission records. If 15/09/2005 is correct, seek correction of educational records through the concerned authorities rather than altering the birth certificate.
Changing your birth certificate to match your educational records (10th marks sheet) is generally much more complicated because educational boards (like SSC/CBSE/Inter) rarely change dates of birth once registered, and doing so requires a lengthy court or board procedure. Instead, it is usually easier to update your Aadhaar and birth certificate to match your school documents if the school records reflect your long-standing official school entry, OR you can keep your birth certificate and update your school records through a gazette notification and a formal application to the respective educational board.
However, since your 10th, Intermediate, and Engineering documents all consistently show 16/09/2005, this date is widely established across your educational career. Changing multiple educational certificates is very difficult. Therefore, the most practical approach is often to get a One-Same Person affidavit, a Gazette Notification for name/DOB clarification, or approach the Registrar of Births and Deaths to correct the birth certificate if valid school records can justify it, or vice versa. It is strongly advised to consult a local advocate to review your 10th-class records and file an appropriate petition or get a formal legal opinion to prevent future employment verification issues.

Your problem is very common and it is fixable, but the first thing to understand is that you cannot simply pick whichever date is more convenient
The law looks for the true date of birth, and that has to be proved from the earliest available record
So before anything else, obtain a certified extract of the admission register of the first school where you were admitted, because that entry shows what date the school originally recorded and where it came from, and also check whether any hospital record or discharge summary of your birth exists
In most cases like yours the school simply copied the date from the birth certificate and a clerk typed one day wrong
If that is so, and 15 September 2005 is genuinely correct, then the mistake is in your educational records and not in your birth certificate, and it is the school and board records that must be corrected
The birth entry registered under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969 is the statutory record of your birth and carries the strongest value, so you should not disturb it just to match a typing error
Procedure is to apply through the head of your school to the concerned board for correction of the date of birth in the tenth class record, enclosing the birth certificate, the admission register extract and the transfer certificate
Boards permit correction of clerical errors only within a limited period after declaration of result, so please move on this immediately and do not wait
Once the tenth class record is corrected, the intermediate board and your university will correct their records on the strength of the corrected tenth certificate, because every later record flows from it
If the board refuses or takes a limitation objection, your remedy is a writ petition under Article 226 before the High Court, or a civil suit for declaration of your correct date of birth under Section 34 of the Specific Relief Act 1963
If on verification it turns out that 16 September 2005 is the true date, then the birth register entry is wrong and you must apply to the Registrar of Births and Deaths under Section 15 of the Act of 1969 for correction, supported by documentary proof, and only thereafter update Aadhaar, keeping in mind that UIDAI allows a date of birth change only once
Please do not waste money on an affidavit or a gazette notification, as a gazette publication is meant for change of name and neither of these alters a public record
Do this now while you are in third year and before your degree and provisional certificate are printed, because correcting it later after employment, passport and provident fund records are created becomes far more difficult
Also make sure you never declare two different dates in two different official applications
To advise you precisely I would need to know which state and which board issued your tenth and intermediate certificates, what date is entered in your first school admission register, and whether any hospital birth record is available
Correct educational records like 10th class marksheet using your valid birth certificate through respective boards like School Board. Do not change government ID if your actual Hospital records show your date of birth as 15/09/2005. Don't change your actual birthday itself.
