Permission for Higher Education for Government Employees Rules

04-Jul-2024 (In Civil Law)
I am working in the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). I completed my B.Ed. without taking permission from my department. Later, I got selected for a teacher's job, and once I received the appointment letter, I resigned from CAPF, saying that I could not continue the service for a long time.

Now, I want to know – can I do a regular course with a government job without taking permission from the department?

If you are a Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) employee and you pursue a regular degree like B.Ed. or any other course without taking permission from your department, it may lead to disciplinary action. As per government service rules, pursuing higher education or any course without official approval is usually seen as a violation of service conduct.

The action taken can vary based on your department?s rules and the seriousness of the issue. It could include a warning, withholding of promotion, stoppage of salary increment, suspension, or in some cases, even termination from the job.

If you have already completed your regular course with a govt job without getting prior approval, it?s best to inform your department now and apply for official permission for any future educational plans. Being honest and transparent can help reduce further problems.

Departments usually approve such requests if the course enhances the employee's qualifications or skills in a way that benefits the organization. However, employees are expected to apply for permission before admission, not afterward, as joining a course without approval can lead to disciplinary issues or the rejection of leave/study claims. Rules and approval processes may vary slightly depending on whether the employee works under central or state government and the specific department involved. For distance or online learning programs, approval is often easier since they typically do not affect office responsibilities. Therefore, any government employee planning to pursue higher studies should carefully review their department's policies, seek timely approval, and ensure compliance with all conditions.

Hi, if you are a government employee, you can pursue a B.Ed. through correspondence or distance mode without any issue. However, if you want to do a regular course, you must take permission for higher education from your department first.

Also, make sure to check the admission requirements and follow the instructions of the concerned university or center before applying. This is important to avoid any problems later, especially if you're planning to use the degree for promotions or applying for another government job.

No, as a government employee, you cannot pursue higher education or a regular course without taking prior permission from your department. If you have already completed your studies without permission and now want to join as a teacher, you may try to do so without mentioning your current job.

However, if during document verification it is found that you were already working in a government job and did not disclose it, it could create serious problems. It may affect your new job and could lead to the cancellation of your appointment.

So, it is always better to get proper permission for higher studies for government employees and be honest about your employment history during any new job application process.
