Hi there, if the booking was through the formal documentation then there are good chances of pursuing it legally. I'll be needing more details as to arrangement between you and your warden along with demand she made to provide an appropriate solution. It's advisable to contact me and provide more details to assist you better.

You are not liable to pay ₹30,000 unless there was any written communication, official notice, or agreement from the hostel confirming that the room was kept reserved for you. Since the warden did not seek confirmation or payment during that period and later allotted the room to someone else, the demand appears arbitrary. You can make a written representation to the Principal or hostel committee explaining the facts and seeking waiver of the charge. If they still insist, file a written complaint with the college grievance cell or education department. Keep copies of all communication for record.

In the given situation, it is clear that the college hostel warden acted arbitrarily and without any formal communication or consent from your side. You never submitted any official form or written confirmation for retaining the hostel room, nor were you informed that the room was being held in your name. After two months, the warden allotted the same room to someone else, which clearly indicates that the booking was never finalized or maintained for your benefit. Therefore, demanding ₹30,000 for a period during which you neither stayed in the hostel nor availed any facility is unjustified and amounts to an unfair demand. Legally and ethically, fees can only be charged against actual occupancy or a confirmed booking made with the student’s consent. In absence of any written agreement or acknowledgment from your side, the warden cannot impose such a financial burden. You should submit a written representation to the college administration, stating the facts, along with a request to waive the wrongful charge. If no resolution is provided, you may also escalate the matter to the principal or university and if not you can approach court.

You are not liable to pay any hostel fee unless there is a written allotment or official confirmation retaining your name for the room. Since the warden neither issued a notice nor took your consent for continued booking, she cannot legally demand ₹30,000. You may submit a written representation to the college administration or principal, enclosing the details of communication, and seek waiver of the alleged dues. If the issue persists, file a complaint before the University Grievance Cell or District Education Officer for unfair demand and misuse of authority.
