If a person's name (born in 1940) does not feature in final voter list after SIR, whether his/her voter id card will still remain valid?

If a person’s name does not appear in the final voter list, then even though the voter ID card remains a valid identity proof, it cannot be used for voting. Inclusion in the electoral roll is mandatory to cast a vote. The voter ID card is not sufficient alone unless the person's name appears in the current electoral roll. You can apply for re-inclusion by submitting Form 6 to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of your constituency.

If the name of the person in question has been removed from the final voter list due to any reason inclusive of death, emigration, etc. then the voter id cannot be used for any purpose whatsoever except for the correction in the voter list if the name is wrongly excluded from the final voter list. if that is the case where the name is wrongly removed, then you need to visit your local or district level election office and file an application for the same. otherwise, the voter id is of no use other than a matter of record that such person was once a voter.
