Is it a crime to get information by giving wrong identification

Actually i called an officer in the education department for the details of scolarship but i did a mistake that i said myself to be the principal of college as they often dont pay attention on a students query. They came to know that and asked me that they will lodge a fir against me so i wanted to know is it a crime that i can go to jail i simply asked only the details..plzzz help me

yes, what you have done is a crime, you cannot use the identity of a person to get any kind of information. they have the right to file a case against you,
Under the Information Technology Act 2000 Chapter IX Sec 66C

SECTION 66C

PUNISHMENT FOR IDENTITY THEFT Whoever, fraudulently or dishonestly makes use of the electronic signature, password or any other unique identification feature of any other person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to rupees one lakh.[
